ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hi! My name is Mira Poeta. I’m a sophmore at Carlmont High School in Belmont, California. I love classical music and have been taking piano lessons focusing on classical music since I was four. Throughout my musical career, my many teachers have all been extraordinary women musicians. Their passion for music and education have always inspired me to push myself harder to become a better piano player, learn music theory, and become a better chamber musician. I created this website to highlight the many amazing women musicians in the San Francisco Bay Area, who often do not get the recognition they deserve. I hope this website provides you an appreciation of the significant musical and educational contributions of the women in music in the Bay Area. I also hope that this website will provide some educational resources for current and aspiring musicians.
ABOUT THE WEBSITE

In today’s society, music is dominated by pop, rock, and hip hop. Even when Western classical music is represented, it is dominated by men. Very few orchestral musicians are women and there are even fewer women conductors and composers. However, there are untold number of highly talented and dedicated women classical musicians who have devoted their lives and careers to playing and teaching classical music, many of whom are in the San Francisco Bay Area. This website is dedicated to showcasing those Bay Area women whose musical and educational contributions have helped to create a vibrant and thriving classical music community in the Bay Area.
